Welcome to house of y.e.t.!

Why house of y.e.t.? y.e.t. stands for “yaffa, emet, tov,” which are the Hebrew words for “beauty, truth, goodness.” With house of y.e.t., I’m attempting to build a so-called structure and shelter (and workshop) for these transcendental virtues.

house of y.e.t. is serialized fiction, with a few essays or short stories sprinkled in. I write contemporary fiction, on the more-literary-than-commercial side of things. (Think Marina Endicott, Mandy Berman, or—Her Writerliness—Sue Miller.)

A little bit about me:

Family? Four kids, a husband, and two black cats

Background? Rural, coastal Maine; Blue Ridge Mountains; Rust Belt; Midwest; North Carolina Piedmont; Jew-turned-Christian-turned-pastor’s-wife; novelist

Favorites? Sue Miller (writer), blue (color), fall (season), Indigo Girls (music), bed (place), Seinfeld (show)

Technical ability? Practically non-existent (so this online newsletter thing should be fun)

Reason for joining Substack? I’m tired of writing in a vacuum, and I think I have some things to say that are of interest. Feel free to tell me if I’m wrong…
